But wait, what does “purging clothes” actually mean? It’s all about letting go of those items that no longer serve a purpose in your life. Whether they’re outdated, ill-fitting, or simply not your style anymore, it’s time to say goodbye. Trust me, once you start purging, you’ll feel lighter and more in control of your fashion choices.

Decluttering your clothes can bring a whole range of benefits to your life. First and foremost, it gives you more space in your closet. Just imagine being able to see all your clothing options at a glance, without having to dig through piles of clothes! It not only saves you time but also helps you stay organized.

Having a minimalist wardrobe means owning fewer pieces that are versatile and can be mixed and matched easily. This approach simplifies your dressing routine, making it stress-free every morning. By purging clothes and keeping only the ones that truly fit you well and make you feel great, you create a curated collection of outfits that suit your personal style perfectly. So, whether it’s decluttering for more space, reducing stress in your daily routine, or enhancing your personal style with curated outfits – purging clothes can bring some wonderful benefits into your life.

So get ready to roll up your sleeves (pun intended) and let’s get started.

Your 15 Minute Clothes Purge

If you don’t have time to dedicate to a full overhaul, here is your 15 minute quick strategy for purging clothes. Take one storage area at a time. So one declutter session do the closet. The next time you have 15 minutes to get something done, do the dresser.

There are two categories of clothes to purge:

Remove clothes that don’t fit

They could be too small, too big or just aren’t the right shape for your body. Pull them out and set them aside. Once you’ve gotten through you entire closet or dresser, these can either be sent straight to donation or you can actually store some. Haha, you heard me. There are only a few scenarios I would recommend this. One is if you are a new mom. Those who have been pregnant know that it really changes your body! So, put some clothes aside for when you get your body back. I would revisit the clothes in storage within the year. I think it’s fair that after a year, your body is going to be what it is.

Purge the holey ones

We know our clothes probably aren’t blessed. But we all have that t-shirt or sweatpants that we pull out of the wash and think to ourselves “I’ll just wear it one more time” Well, I think you know what I’m going to say next. Today is the day to say goodbye.

Breaking Free From Clothes Clutter

I always start every declutter with rapid fire purge to get you going. You can start by going through your closet and dressers separately. So even if you plan on doing the full clothing purge, start with the 15 minute strategy above.

Clothes are a very person element of you home. For this reason when it comes to purging clothes the Marie Kondo Method is my first stop. If you aren’t familiar, she encourages her clients to only keep items that bring them joy. Taking each piece individually and make a quick decision if that item brings you joy or not. There’s nothing magical about it…or it’s everything magical about it LOL

Imagine opening your closet doors and being greeted by a curated collection of clothes that make you feel confident and inspired. No more wasting time sifting through items that no longer serve you.

I highly recommend her book! It’s an easy read and fits nicely into your purse or bedside table.

The Marie Kondo Method encourages us to evaluate each item of clothing individually, asking ourselves if it truly brings us happiness. By decluttering our closets and only keeping the items that we love and wear regularly, we can create a more streamlined and efficient wardrobe.
